Forest Discovery Tours
Facts for the visitor. FfP has developed many discovery ecotours which are a enviromentally friendly way of visiting the South East dry zone of Sri Lanka. FfP is part of a local network of NGO’s and non profit organization that provide a enviromently friendly way of visiting Sri lanka and seening it at grass root levels.
For the vistor to Sri Lanka FfP has set up some residential facilities, on the FfP demonstration site by the river, plus visits to local countryside to see examples of FfP’s work or for camping in wildlife areas. This activity helps in making FfP a self supporting organization, discuss initiatives and/or share a different point of view.
Udawalawe National Park
Distance to Udawalawe Park gate from FfP is 28 km.
Organized ecotour. FfP can offer a two week ecotour where you will be greeted at the airport and will then transfer to the Catamaran Beach Hotel in Negombo where you will spend two nights. In Negombo you will participate in a sightseeing tour of a fishing village. After breakfast on the second morning the tour leaves for Forests Parks near Bandarawela, with an excursion halfway at Pinnawela elephant orphanage. In Bandarawela you will spend another two nights and during this time visit organic tea estates, spice gardens and enjoy the tast of Sri Lankan cooking.
On the fifth moring tour will proceed to Forests for People (FfP) in Tanamalwila. At FfP you will spend six nights during which you will visit the local countryside to see examples of FfP’s work and visit a rock statue of Budda and the cave temples. Go on a Jeep Safari to Yala national Park, visit Kataragama locally known as the “land of the gods” and camp in the wildlife areas. At FfP your accommodation is by the river, peaceful and tranquil. From FfP you will proceed down South where you will check in at the Paradise Beach Hotel or stay in a lagoon side cabin in a village full of wildlife near Tangalle and, spend two nights/days at leisrue. Next leave for Negombo where you will spend your last night at the Catamaran Beach Hotel and on the next moring after breakfast transfer to the airport for departure flight.
Getting there by bus. Distances From Colombo to Tanamalwila along the coast road through Matara and Hambantota is 285 km; through Ratnapura – Pelmadulla and Walawe it is 230 km Since the past few years an air-con. bus service is available.
